Category Commercial Manager - Perishable Goods (Purchasing / Procurement / Buyer)
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Category Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute category growth strategies, assortment planning, and promotional pricing for assigned commercial portfolios. Identify emerging market trends to capture new revenue streams across wholesale channels.
- Supplier Sourcing & Negotiation: Lead vendor sourcing, contract negotiations, and relationship management to secure competitive commercial terms, trading agreements, and target margins.
- Sales & Margin Optimization: Monitor sales performance, conduct P&L analyses, and implement commercial initiatives to improve category yield and inventory turnover.
- Pricing & Competitive Intelligence: Implement dynamic pricing strategies and trade programs that balance customer value with business margins, keeping a continuous pulse on competitor pricing.
- Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and manage a team of Assistant Buyers and Category Assistants, fostering a high-performance culture across category operations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of experience in category management, buying, or merchandising, with exposure to fresh, perishable, or short shelf-life categories.
- Industry Background: Strong background in retail, wholesale, grocery, or FMCG environments.
- Leadership Experience: At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity overseeing commercial buying staff.
- Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of fresh category dynamics, yield management, vendor funding models, and freshness standards.
- Core Skills: Advanced negotiation, financial acumen, stakeholder management, and analytical skills with a focus on data-driven execution.
