Job Overview

The Engineering Assistant Manager oversees day-to-day plant engineering operations, ensuring that utilities, equipment, and support systems are operating efficiently and reliably. The role supervises maintenance activities, drives improvements in preventive maintenance programs, manages engineering resources, and ensures compliance with regulatory and audit requirements to support uninterrupted production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of plant engineering, including refrigeration, compressed air, electrical power, steam systems, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all preventive maintenance tasks are completed effectively and according to plan.
  • Recommend updates or changes to preventive maintenance work orders, schedules, and processes.
  • Evaluate daily monitoring tasks performed by Engineering Technicians and ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in equipment troubleshooting, system upgrades, and improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure availability of critical utilities and support systems required for smooth and continuous plant production.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements (structural, wastewater, fire protection, environmental, health, and safety standards).
  • Lead and oversee pre-bid and bidding processes; evaluate and coordinate with contractors and suppliers; review and audit third-party project activities.
  • Manage purchasing and inventory control of spare parts and ensure proper documentation.
  • Plan and schedule work orders and maintenance activities for direct reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in any Engineering field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a similar role.
  • Preferably a licensed engineer.
  • Knowledge in refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, electrical power systems, water/steam systems, compressed air supply, and rotating equipment maintenance.
  • Experience in Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) or similar maintenance frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills, high stress tolerance, and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to recommend or implement policy improvements, new methods, or new systems impacting engineering or operations.
